Chloe’s Story
Chloe Des Rochers was killed on August 2, 2022 in Rosedale, British Columbia after a pick-up truck hit her at the dimly lit intersection of Nevin and Ford Roads whilst skateboarding shortly after 10pm PST. Chloe’s body was thrown 18 meters on to a grass ravine. She was rushed to Chilliwack General Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. She was 19-years-old.
While the investigation into Chloe’s death is ongoing by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers have alleged that alcohol is being looked into as a possible contributing factor. Chloe’s parents, Tara and Ryan are also bringing attention to the rural intersection of Nevin and Ford Roads where local residents have reported numerous vehicles speeding on a regular basis. Both of Chloe’s parents would like to see change - whether it be calming measures or the implementation of a 4-way stop to ensure this doesn’t happen to anybody else’s child.
Chloe was a kind and compassionate human being with her whole life ahead of her. She was training to be a Care Aid with the hopes of later becoming a nurse like her mother, Tara. She worked with seniors long-term care and terminally ill patients with Sienna Living at the Cascades Lodge in Chilliwack, BC.
Our Mission
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Chloe experienced Depression from being so isolated and struggling to remain connected to people in her community. Even through this time, Chloe believed in health and exercise and worked to keep a positive outlook on her life. She believed that being a good person to other people and animals would bring kindness back to her. It was during a period of exercising and taking care of herself that Chloe tragically died. Chloe’s family want to bring awareness to the importance of mental health - particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the barriers people face in Chilliwack in finding adequate services.
Community Advocacy
Chloe’s parents have created a petition to demand change to the Nevin and Ford Roads intersection in Rosedale, BC where Chloe was killed. What is currently a two way stop has allowed vehicles traveling along the dimly lit Ford Road to speed without being able to properly see pedestrians.
If you would like to support Tara and Ryan’s cause, please sign the petition and let the City of Chilliwack know that things need to change.
Also please consider signing the petition against the province of BC’s no fault insurance at change.org
Chloe’s Memorial Road Trip
Chloe’s favourite place was Disney World. In the Fall of 2022, Chloe’s family are traveling there with her ashes by RV to honour their daughter and her legacy.
